Alfred Charles Montford was born on 17 November 1893. In November 1913 Montford went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.
In January 1915 Montford left his job as a clerk at the bank's Foreign branch in London to join the army. He initially served in the Royal Fusiliers, and was later commissioned into the Machine Gun Corps. Second Lieutenant Montford died on the Western Front on 3 May 1917. He was 23 years old.
Alfred Montford is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
