Nelson Donald Webster, known to his bank colleagues as Webby, was born on 4 May 1923, the son of Nelson and Florence Webster. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in 1939, working at its Sheffield branch.
In June 1942 Webster left the bank to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He trained as a navigator, and not long after commencing operations was killed on a mission over Germany, on 4 November 1944. Sergeant Webster was 21 years old and left a widow, Kathleen, whom he had married that summer.
