Leonard Bert Perry White was born on 16 January 1919, the son of George and Mabel White. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in April 1936 and spent time working at its Cambridge, Berkhamsted and Eltham branches. 

 

In December 1939 White left his job at the bank’s London Eltham branch, where he had been based for only 8 days, to go on war service, joining the Royal Navy. By 1942 he was a Leading Supply Assistant on HMS Danae, stationed near Indonesia. He died on 9 June 1942 of poisoning from a disinfectant which, according to his official cause of death, was 'self administered whilst of unsound mind.' He was 23 years old.
