John Hayward Wane was born on 22 February 1923, the son of Louisa Vesey Wane and John Roper Wane. He joined the staff of District Bank, the bank for which his grandfather, uncle and cousin all worked, at its Preston 35 Fishergate branch in September 1939.
In July 1942 Wane left the bank to go on war service, joining the South Lancashire Regiment. Second Lieutenant Wane was killed in an accident on active service in the UK on 26 January 1945. He was 21 years old.

John Hayward Wane was my father's twin brother George Wane was serving in the Madras regiment when he heard of his twins death.
