Ivor Jack Wedgbury was born on 24 November 1917, the son of Walter and Dorothy Caroline Wedgbury. He was educated at St Albans School.
In January 1935 Wedgbury joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its St Albans branch. He moved to Barnet branch in 1937 and was promoted to clerk two months later. In his obituary a colleague said of him, 'Of a quiet and retiring disposition, his sincerity and charm of manner won him a host of friends'.

By 1944 Wedgbury had risen to the rank of Major, and was on active service in Italy. He was killed in action there on 3 June 1944, at the age of 26. His posthumously-awarded Military Cross was presented to his widow Joan by the King in 1946.
