Alexander Wilson, always known as Alistair, was born in about 1911, the second son of Archibald and Sarah Wilson of Edderton, Ross and Cromarty. He was educated at Gledfield School and Tain Academy, after which he went to work for Commercial Bank of Scotland at its Tain branch. He later transferred to the bank's Perth branch. Outside work he was a keen footballer.
During the Second World War Wilson left the bank to join the army. Private Wilson of the Gordon Highlanders was killed in action in Egypt on 3 December 1942. He was 31 years old and left a fiancée, Nancy Macleish.
Alistair Wilson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh.
