Ronald Vince

Ronald Lionel Vince was born on 6 March 1920 and joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its Richmond branch in September 1936. He was also a member of the bank's staff sports club. A colleague later recalled, 'he was one of the brightest and most capable members of the staff, and was very popular with his colleagues.'

 

In August 1940 Vince left the bank to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He trained in Canada, and after gaining his wings returned to England, where he was assigned to an operational night flying squadron on the East Coast. He later transferred to the Mediterranean, and on 22 April 1942 was lost while flying from Malta to Cairo. He was 22 years old.

 

Ronald Vince is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Richmond Surrey branch.
