William Francis Taberner was born on 15 December 1906, the son of Emily Margaret and William Holford Taberner. He joined the staff of District Bank as a junior at its Garstang branch in September 1923. He was promoted to clerk at Carnforth branch in 1929 and moved back to Garstang branch in 1932. In 1940 he moved to Morecambe branch.
In September 1941 Taberner left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Aircraftman 1st Class Taberner was killed on 28 February 1943 as part of the crew of a Liberator which crashed due to a machine fault. He was 36 years old.
