Robert Thomas Tobias was born on 22 March 1921, the son of William and Lena Tobias. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank at its Wokingham branch in October 1939.
He later left the bank to go on war service, and by 1946 was a Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, serving on board the aircraft carrier HMS Vengeance. On 15 January 1946 he was on board a military flight from Sicily to England for demobilisation when the plane crashed near Marseilles, killing all on board. Lieutenant Tobias was 24 years old.
Robert Tobias is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Bracknell branch.
