Place of work: Worcester branch

Died: 20 September 1944

Cyril Cadle Tayler was born on 28 May 1920, the son of Jessie and Herbert William Tayler. He was educated at Cardiff High School.

In July 1936 Tayler joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Cowbridge branch. He was promoted to clerk in October 1938 and in February 1939 he moved to Worcester branch.

A few months later, in August 1939, Tayler left his job at the bank to join the armed forces, eventually joining the Glider Pilot Regiment as a glider pilot. Early in 1944 Tayler married Beryl in Gloucestershire. Later that year, on 20 September 1944, Lieutenant Cyril Tayler was killed in action in the Netherlands during Operation Market Garden. He was posthumously mentioned in despatches for his actions leading up to his death, as he managed to land his glider despite his aircraft being damaged and he being seriously wounded. He died of his wounds the day after the accident. He was 24 years old and left his widow, Beryl.
