Thomas Still was born on 28 February 1895, the son of William and Elizabeth Still. He served in the Royal Navy from 1913 until he was pensioned in February 1935. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a messenger at Coventry branch in April 1935. 

 

Still was mobilised for service with the Royal Navy just before the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939. He served on HMS Dragon and HMS Pembroke II before joining the crew of HMS Ibis in August 1941. Petty Officer Stoker Thomas Still was killed on 10 November 1942 when HMS Ibis was sunk by an airborne torpedo from an Italian aircraft in the Western Mediterranean, north of Algiers. He was 47 years old and left a widow, Emily Jane, whom he had married in 1917, and 2 children.
