Kenneth Graham Smith was born on 28 October 1920, the son of Francis Ernest and Madeline Smith. He was educated at Alleyne's Grammar School, Stone. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Bournemouth Winton in October 1937 and was promoted to junior clerk a few months later.
At the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939 he left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Flying Officer Smith was killed in an aircraft accident at RAF Oldham on 26 September 1941. He was 20 years old.
