Henry Keith Burton Stewart was born on 13 December 1920, the son of Wallace Henry and Sarah Constance Stewart. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its Newport (Isle of Wight) branch in October 1937. Outside work he was a member of his church choir and enjoyed playing cricket and tennis. 

In March 1941 Stewart left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Aircraftman (2nd Class) Stewart had just completed his training as a wireless mechanic and been posted to a squadron when he was killed in a flying accident on 12 October 1941. He was 20 years old.
