Harold Shaw was born on 22 February 1916, the son of Walter and Mabel Annie Shaw. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in its London Threadneedle Street office in August 1934. He became a member of the bank's staff hockey club. 

 

In March 1941 he left the bank to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was trained as a navigator and observer in Canada under the Dominion Air Training Scheme, and was granted a commission on February 1942, during his voyage back to Britain. Pilot Officer was posted to a Wellington squadron and took part in several missions, but was killed during air operations on 7 August 1942. He was 26 years old. A bank colleague later recalled that 'his cheerful disposition, sincerity and zest for work and play have left a treasured memory.'

 

Harold Shaw is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
