He was my Uncle and died this 8th day of August 1944 in Normandy. He was a clerk at Palmeira Branch in Hove. He was only a week or two past his 21st birthday. My father is no longer alive, but he never spoke of Eric having a girlfriend and indeed rarely spoke about him. I have no recollection of my father and Eric having any sort of “falling out”, but I think it was just a matter of not mixing much as my father joined-up & ended up as an officer in India until 1947. My grandfather was a butcher with several shops in Brighton and Hove, but he died 2 or so years before I was born.
