Charles Smith was born on 2 February 1920, the son of Mabel Smith. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its London Threadneedle Street office in June 1939.
Smith was a territorial soldier, and just before the outbreak of war in September 1939 he was called to active service with his regiment, the King's Royal Rifle Corps. Rifleman Smith was posted to the Middle East at the beginning of 1941, and was killed in Greece on 27 May 1941. He was 21 years old.
Charles Smith is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
