Joseph Thomas Raycraft was born on 24 July 1900, the son of John and Annie Raycraft. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a messenger at its London head office in September 1927.
In March 1943 he left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. Private Raycraft died on 14 June 1947. He was 46 years old and left a widow, Violet Alice, whom he had married in 1925, and a son in his early twenties.
