James Rennie

James Campbell Rennie was born in Leuchars, Fife, in 1922, the son of John and Isabella Mitchell Rennie. He worked for Commercial Bank of Scotland at its St Andrews branch. 

 

During the Second World War Rennie left the bank to go on military service in the Black Watch. In 1943, when he held the rank of Lieutenant, he was awarded a Military Cross 'for outstanding coolness and courage in the face of the enemy during a night attack in Italy'. He was later promoted to Captain. 

 

Captain Rennie MC was killed in action in Normandy on 25 June 1944. He was 21 years old.
