Derrick Redvers Redbourn was born in Lambeth, London in 1922, the son of Margaret Elizabeth and Jack Redvers Redbourn. He worked for Coutts & Co, London.
Redbourn left the bank to go on military service when he was 17 years old. He volunteered with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and was later awarded his Observer wings and granted a commission as Pilot Officer in a special high altitude bombing squadron.
On 6 December 1942, by which time Redbourn was a Flying Officer in a Boston aircraft, he was detailed to participate in the daylight bombing of the Phillips Radio Works at Eindhoven. Following a successful operation, his plane was shot down by fighters and crashed off the Dutch coast. Flying Officer Redbourn's body was recovered from the sea on 11 February 1943. He was 20 years old.
Derrick Redbourn is commemorated on a bank memorial at Coutts & Co, London 440 Strand.
