Victor Eric George Phillips was born on 1 January 1919, the only son of George and Alice Phillips. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its Gillingham, Kent branch in January 1936. He later served at West Southbourne branch, and in April 1939 transferred to Boscombe branch. He was remembered by a bank colleague as 'a most promising member of the staff with outstanding abilities'.
In April 1940 he left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Pilot Officer Phillips was killed during air operations on 7 June 1941. He was 22 years old.
Victor Phillips is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Bournemouth Southbourne Grove branch.
