Philip Pendlebury was born on 1 June 1920, the son of Oswald and Elizabeth Pendlebury. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in August 1938, working at Sandbach branch. He was later described by a colleague as a 'good all-round sportsman with a happy disposition'.
In August 1940 he left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was a trainee pilot when he was killed in a flying accident on 21 April 1941. He was 20 years old.
Philip Pendlebury is commemorated on bank war memorial at NatWest Sandbach branch.
