Bank: Westminster Bank
Place of work: Radcliffe branch
Died: 11 April 1943
Peter Plowright was born on 21 May 1918, the son of Arthur and Edith Mary Plowright. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its Radcliffe branch in March 1936.
In June 1940 Plowright left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He originally served as a rigger at a fighter command station, but early in 1943 became a flight engineer. Sergeant Plowright was killed during operations over Germany on 11 April 1943. He was 24 years old. A colleague later recalled, 'Plowright was undoubtedly a good sportsman in every sense of the word, and his quiet, dry humour endeared him to everyone with whom he came into contact.'
