Peter Patterson

Peter Lindsay Patterson was born in Duns in 1920, the son of Margaret and Peter Patterson. He was educated at Duns Public School and Berwickshire High School before joining the staff of National Bank of Scotland at its Duns branch. A keen sportsman, he played football for several local teams and was an official of the Duns Tennis Club.

 

At the outbreak of the Second World War Patterson left the bank to serve in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was posted to the Middle East, and was killed in an air raid on a town there on 26 July 1942. Leading Aircraftman Patterson was 22 years old.
