Peter Mitchell Paton was born on 9 June 1918. By 1939 he was a member of the staff of National Bank of Scotland. He worked at the bank's branches in Jedburgh and Arbroath.
During the Second World War Paton left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Corporal in the Black Watch. He died on 19 April 1945 whilst a prisoner of war in North West Germany. He was 26 years old.
Peter Paton is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh.
