Patrick Richard Owen was born on 8 August 1920, the son of William and Ellen Phoebe Owen. Known to his family as Pat, he was educated at Dublin High School, Llangefni Grammar School and Woodhouse School, Finchley.

In November 1938 Owen joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Southgate branch. He was promoted to junior clerk in February 1939.

In July 1940 Owen left his job at Southgate branch to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Just over a year later, on 31 August 1941, Pilot Officer Patrick Owen was killed in action in the UK. He was 21 years old.
