Douglas Allan Oxlade was born on 17 December 1912, the son of Douglas and Mathilda Oxlade. He was educated at County High School, Ilford. He joined the staff of Glyn, Mills & Co in September 1929, moving to its Child & Co office, Oxford in 1938.

 

In 1940 Oxlade left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Artillery. Bombardier Oxlade was captured on active service in the Far East on 15 February 1942 and died while a prisoner of war on 24 June 1943. He was 30 years old and left a widow, Freda, whom he had married in 1938.
