Paul Victor John Nolan was born in Richmond, Surrey, in 1925, the son of Cedric Victor and Helen Strickland Nolan. He worked for Westminster Bank at its London Fulham branch, probably only briefly, as part of its temporary wartime staff. 

He later left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Sussex Regiment. He died of wounds in Burma on 19 November 1944. He was 19 years old.
