Roy McKay was born on 13 April 1921, the son of John and Susan McKay. He was educated at East Ham Grammar School for Boys and joined the staff of District Bank as a junior at its London office in February 1939.
In November 1941 McKay left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Warrant Officer McKay was killed in a flying accident in India on 5 November 1944. He was 23 years old.
