Michael Milner

Michael Nicholson Milner was born in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire on 17 January 1922, the son of Kathleen and Geoffrey Milner. He worked for Coutts & Co, London.

 

In August 1941 Milner left the bank to go on military service. He joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, undergoing training in Southern Rhodesia where he was awarded his pilot's badge and promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In June 1943 he returned to England and was posted to an operational unit. In March 1944 he received his commission. 

 

On the night of 7-8 July 1944, Milner's Lancaster bomber was lost while taking part in a raid over North West France, killing all six of the crew. Flying Officer Milner was 22 years old.

 

Michael Milner is commemorated on a bank memorial at Coutts & Co, London 440 Strand.
