Leslie Satterthwait McKnight was born in Fylde, Lancashire, on 22 June 1925. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank at its Fleetwood branch in January 1942. He left the bank to go on war service 17 months later, shortly after his 18th birthday. By 1945 he was a Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. He earned the DSC in the course of his service.
On 3 May 1945 Sub-Lieutenant McKnight and his five crewmates were killed when their Landing Craft (Tank) was mined in the Irrawaddy river, Burma. He was 19 years old.
Leslie McKnight is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Cleveleys branch.
