Harold Magee
Bank: Westminster Bank
Place of work: Faversham branch
Died: 18 November 1943
Harold Arthur Grisdale Magee was born on 13 April 1917 and joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its Faversham branch in March 1936.
He left the bank to go on military service in September 1939, serving in England until January 1943, when he was posted to North Africa as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery. There he was wounded and taken prisoner and held in Italy. Around the time of the cessation of hostilities between Italy and the Allies, Magee either escaped or was released, and was due to be repatriated to Britain on 18 November 1943. The plane in which he was travelling disappeared in transit, and Lieutenant Magee was subsequently presumed to have been killed on that date. He was 26 years old and left a widow, Patricia, whom he had married in 1941.
Harold Magee is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Faversham branch.
