David Milne was born in about 1923, the son of Henry and Catherine Barclay Milne. He worked for Commercial Bank of Scotland at its Glasgow Chief Office.
During the Second World War Milne left the bank to serve in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. He was part of the crew of HMS Kite, which was sunk by a U-boat in the Barents Sea on 21 August 1944, killing 208 of the 2017 men on board, including Sub-Lieutenant Milne. He was 21 years old and left a widow, Jeannie.
David Milne is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh.
