Christopher Hugh Vernon Moreton was born on 2 December 1921, the son of Harry and Ivy Moreton. In May 1940 he went to work for The National Bank as a probationer at its Manchester Mosley Street branch.
In June 1941 Moreton left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Armoured Corps. By 1944 he held the rank of Lieutenant and was serving in France. He was killed in action there on 19 July 1944. He was 22 years old.
Christopher Moreton is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 250 Bishopsgate, London.
