Bernard Lee Mason was born on 24 March 1890, the son of the Reverend and Mrs WH Mason. He was educated at Barnsley Board School, Bollington Wesleyan School, Edward VI Modern School Macclesfield, and County Intermediate School, Welshpool. He joined the staff of Union of London & Smiths Bank as a clerk at its London Princes Street branch in June 1907, moving to Chancery Lane branch later that year. In 1918 Union of London & Smiths Bank merged with National Provincial Bank of England. In August of this year, Mason moved to the enlarged bank’s London Victoria Street branch, and in 1921 he moved to Bedford Row branch. In February 1924 he moved to West Smithfield branch and was promoted to cashier. In 1925 he became cashier at Westminster branch; in 1927, accountant at Finchley Road; in 1930, manager at Brompton Road; and in 1935, manager at Richmond, Surrey. 

 

Mason was killed on the third day of the London Blitz, 9 September 1940, when a bomb fell on Friars Stile Road, Richmond. He was 50 years old and left a widow, Elsie Grace, and two children.
