Arthur Moore
Bank: Westminster Bank
Place of work: Kingston-on-Thames branch
Died: 5 April 1943
Arthur Desmond Moore was born on 19 March 1911, the son of Arthur and Alice Maud Moore. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in June 1928, and from April 1937 worked at the bank's Kingston-upon-Thames branch. He was remembered by a colleague as 'always keen and enthusiastic in his work...a very efficient and promising member of the staff.' Outside work he was a member of the bank's staff sports club.
In October 1940 Moore left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He trained in the USA and Canada, passing out top of his class.
On 5 April 1943 Flying Officer Moore was part of the crew of a Lancaster bomber that took off from RAF Wickenby, Lincolnshire, on a mission over Germany. The plane crashed, presumably into the North Sea, on its return journey, killing all on board. Flying Officer Moore was 32 years old and left a widow, Octavia, whom he had married in 1937.
