Allan George Raymond MacKenzie was born on 13 February 1924, the son of Emily and Norman MacKenzie. In April 1941 he joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank at its London Marylebone (Oxford Street) branch.
In June 1942, after turning 18, MacKenzie left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Flight Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On 19 April 1945 the Mosquito aircraft he was flying was damaged by German flak over Denmark as it was returning from a mission. MacKenzie was killed immediately and his navigator died in hospital soon afterwards. Flight Sergeant MacKenzie was 21 years old.
