John Liddell

John Liddell, also known as Ian, was born in Falkirk in 1920, the son of Hilda and John Liddell. He was educated at Haddington and Falkirk High Schools, and worked for National Bank of Scotland at its Falkirk branch.

 

Upon the outbreak of the Second World War Liddell left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Sergeant Pilot in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On 17 January 1941 he was killed on a flight from Drem, near Edinburgh, when his plane crashed after being caught in a snowstorm. He was 20 years old.
