John Hesketh Kinsey was born on 5 August 1915, the son of Stanley Hesketh Kinsey and Dorothy Maude Kinsey. He was educated at Sandbach Grammar School. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Whitchurch (Shropshire) branch in February 1934. He was promoted to junior clerk in May 1934, and to clerk in 1936. He moved to Liverpool Aintree branch in 1937, and later to Liverpool Walton branch.
In March 1941 Kinsey left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On 14 March 1942 he was promoted to Leading Aircraftman, and by July 1942 he held the commissioned rank of Pilot Officer. On 20 July 1942, Kinsey and his crew took off from RAF Portreath in Cornwall, heading to Gibraltar. Four hours into the flight, they were attacked by a German combat aircraft and crashed into the sea, and Kinsey was killed. He was 26 years old.
