Henry Johnson Kelly was born on 14 January 1923, the son of John Robinson Kelly and his wife Julia. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank in October 1939, and after a brief period of training was assigned to the bank's London Earl's Court branch. Outside work he was an enthusiastic cricketer, a member of Richmond (Surrey) Cricket Club.
In March 1941 Kelly's elder brother John was killed in action while serving in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. At around the same time, Henry himself left the bank to join the RAFVR. He trained as a pilot in Florida, and after returning to England was stationed in the Midlands.
Sergeant Kelly died while on active service on 7 May 1943. He was 20 years old.
Henry Kelly is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London South Kensington Station branch.
