Wilton Jones was born in April 1909, the son of William Jones, a bank clerk, and his wife Isabella Eleanor. He worked for National Provincial Bank at its Bedford branch.

During the Second World War Jones left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Pilot Officer Jones died on active service on 26 July 1943. He was 34 years old.
