William Johnson was born in Lerwick, Shetland, in about 1917, the son of William and Margaret Johnson. He worked for Commercial Bank of Scotland at its Banff branch.
During the Second World War Johnson left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Lance Bombardier in the Royal Artillery. He died in hospital in Birmingham on 6 June 1940. He was 23 years old.
William Johnson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh.
