Herbert Jenkins
Bank: Westminster Bank
Place of work: Trustee department, Bristol
Died: 6 December 1940
Herbert Leslie Jenkins was born in Bristol on 16 November 1900. By the late 1930s he was owner and administrative manager of a retirement home, Eventide Home, on King Square in Bristol. In June 1940 he joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank at its Bristol Trustee Department, probably taking the job on alongside his duties at the retirement home. Shortly afterwards he married Blodwen Mary Jones, the matron of Eventide Home.
On 6 December 1940 Bristol suffered one of a series of severe air raids. A bomb destroyed Eventide Home, killing a number of residents, including both Herbert and Blodwen.
Herbert Jenkins is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Bristol City Office.
