Harry Geoffrey Jarman was born on 23 September 1919, the son of William Eustace Jarvie and his wife Marion Elizabeth. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank as a probationer at its Oxford branch in 1937.

In November 1939 Jarman left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Army Service Corps. He started his army training at a camp near Salisbury Plain. When he had leave over the Christmas break, he spent part of it helping out at his old branch, which had become short-staffed. Returning to his training camp in January, Jarman fell ill with meningitis and died there on 18 January 1940. He was 20 years old.
