Harry Jackson was born on 30 November 1918, the son of Mary and John Robert Jackson. He joined the staff of County Bank as a junior at its Buxton branch in June 1935. Later in that year County Bank was taken over by District Bank and Jackson became an employee of that bank. He moved to Whaley Bridge branch in July 1939.
In January 1940 Jackson left the bank to go on military service, joining the Pay Corps. He subsequently transferred to the Royal Artillery, and then to the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). Lieutenant Jackson was killed in action in Germany on 22 May 1945. He was 26 years old.
