David Noel Jones was born on 24 December 1917, the son of Mr and Mrs H Jones. He was educated at Friar's School, Bangor, and spoke Welsh. He joined the staff of District Bank as a junior at its Manchester Oxford Road branch in July 1935. He moved to Broughton Bridge branch in 1937 and in June 1939 he was promoted to clerk at Northenden branch. In November 1939 he moved to Stretford branch.  

In December 1939 Jones left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force. Leading Aircraftman Jones was killed in an accident during a training flight in Canada on 14 August 1942. He was 24 years old.
