Thomas Kenneth Haynes was born on 11 May 1918, the son of Charles Frederick and Gertrude Susie Haynes. He was educated at Dulwich College. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer in May 1935 at London 123 Fenchurch Street branch. He was promoted to clerk in October 1937 and moved to London Orchard Street Corner branch a month later.

 

In September 1940 Haynes left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Pilot Officer Haynes was reported missing, later presumed to have been killed, on 26 March 1942. He was 23 years old.
