Michael Hills was born in on 15 August 1923, the eldest of five children of Louis and Florence Edith Hills. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank in August 1940, working at its Chipping Sodbury branch.
He later left the bank to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, training as a navigator. Flying Officer Hills was killed on 11 June 1944 as part of the crew of a Lancaster bomber which crashed in France on a bombing mission, killing all on board. He was 20 years old.
Michael Hills is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Yate branch.
