Fred Grundy Hall was born in Wigan in 1919, the son of Richard Barlow Hall and his wife Matilda. In October 1936 he went to work for Williams Deacon's Bank. 

 

From September 1938 Hall was based at the bank's Leyland branch, but in May 1940 he left to go on military service, becoming a Lance Serjeant in the Irish Guards. He was killed in action in Belgium on 11 September 1944. He was 24 years old and left a widow, Margaret.

 

Fred Hall is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Hardman Boulevard office, Manchester.
