Eric Patterson Hibbs was born on 1 December 1913, the son of Lewis and Grace Hibbs. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in its trustee department, based at Threadneedle Street, London in July 1933. 

 

In May 1940 Hibbs left the bank to go on war service, joining the East Africa Army Service Corps. He served in East Africa and in Addis Ababa after the capture of the city from the Italians in 1941.

 

Second Lieutenant Hibbs was killed in Madagascar on 7 September 1942, in the campaign to capture the island from Vichy France. He was 28 years old. 

 

Eric Hibbs is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
