Laurence Glover

Laurence Trevor Glover was born on 11 March 1920, the son of Harold Edgar and Elsie Caroline Glover. He joined Westminster Bank in April 1937 at its Petersfield branch and moved to Southsea branch just over a year later. Outside work he had a passionate interest in aviation. He was a member of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, and had already qualified as a pilot before the outbreak of war. 

 

In September 1939 Glover left the bank to go on full-time RAF service as a Sergeant Pilot. He was later promoted to Pilot Officer. 

 

Pilot Officer Glover was killed on 27 June 1941 when his plane was shot down over Germany. He was 21 years old. 

 

Laurence Glover is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Southsea branch.
